About Our AuthorManosi Lahiri
Born in Calcutta , Manosi Lahiri took her first trip when she was only a few months old and has been traveling ever since. She studied at the Universities of Calcutta, Delhi and London, and holds a doctorate in Geography from Delhi University. While lecturing in geography after graduation, she came to the realization that the growth of computer technology would lead to new ways to make and use maps. So in 1993, she founded ML Infomap, New Delhi, to develop digital maps and provide services in geographic information systems. Digital map products and IT solutions developed by the company, which she heads at Chief Executive Officer, are widely used by corporations and research institutes. Dr. Lahiri has contributed to several prestigious projects of the Government of India as well as a number of UN organizations. She is also the author of the Understanding Geography series of textbooks for Indian middle-schoolers, published by Oxford University Press India. Passionate about cartography, trekking, and the survey of remote destinations, Dr. Lahiri has traveled extensively in Tibet and China. "The pleasure of experiencing new places and meeting people has always enriched my life," she says, "and my training as a geographer has given me insights about the environment that I would otherwise have missed. Writing Here Be Yaks is my way of sharing and informing others about the remote highlands of Tibet."
