The Best Book About Universal Orlando Keeps Getting BetterUniversal Orlando 2011 highlights Wizarding World of Harry PotterWith the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, authors Seth Kubersky and Kelly Monaghan have updated their Universal Orlando book – now Universal Orlando 2011: The Ultimate Guide to The Ultimate Theme Park Adventure – to give theme park and Potter aficionados a first-hand guidebook evaluation of the much-anticipated Universal addition. Universal Orlando 2011 has grown from 266 pages to 288 pages and now features 16 pages of four-color photographs, including several from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The 14-page chapter devoted to WWHP describes the three different rides, along with Potter-themed theaters shows, shops and, of course, eateries. The highlight is the dark thrill ride, “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey,” described by the authors as “the best theme-park ride in the Western Hemisphere.” The experience combines a tour of the Hogwarts Castle (the book warns about spoilers) followed by a ride that employs a robotic arm mounted on a moving track and high definition images. Not far behind Forbidden Journey is “Dragon Challenge,” which consists of twin roller coasters, the Hungarian Horntail and the Chinese Fireball. The coasters loop and swirl around each other and almost meet head on in this 90-second thrill ride. And finally “Flight of the Hippogriff,” described as a junior roller coaster, offers the best view of Hogsmeade Village. Other elements of the attraction include Ollivander’s Wand Shop and other small theater performances. The dining options reflect the Potter experience (with the blessing of JK Rowling) all the way down to the Butterbeer. While WWHP is guaranteed to pique your interest in Universal Orlando, the authors share details about the other attractions within Islands of Adventure along with Universal Studios Florida, CityWalk, and the Resort Hotels, which are attractions in themselves. They stress the importance of planning your trip (even down to the best places to park) and include dining out suggestions for all budgets Seth Kubersky is an arts columnist and former Universal backstage employee; he is a well-known theme park expert. Kelly Monaghan is a travel writer and publisher who has been coveing Orlando attractions for more than 15 years. The Intrepid Traveler publishes a wide range of travel books, from Hidden Mickeys: A Field Guide To Walt Disney World’s Best Kept Secrets, to Paris Movie Walks, to The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful, a collection of travel quotations.
