AROUND IRELAND BY B&B
|
This is a handsome Georgian-era farm house that sits in the middle of a working farm. The field outside our front-facing window was filled with cows. To the north we could see the mountains of the Dingle Peninsula, when they weren't wreathed in clouds.
The rooms have been beautifully remodeled and updated. There is a rather grand if somewhat austere entry hall and a comfortable sitting room for guests with television and a well-stocked library.
The dining room was light and airy with one end given over entirely to conservatory-like windows. And the menu was the best of the trip. It was here our traveling companion indulged her taste for smoked kippers.
Kilburn House proved to be ideal as a base for the Dingle Peninsula and its magnificent vistas. In nearby, Killorglin, we discovered one of our favorite eateries in Ireland, the Top Deck Restaurant. We wound up eating there both nights of our stay. Order fish here and you won't be disappointed.
